Maureen Murphy 1952 - 2008 It is with profound sadness that the Worth Township Supervisor’s Office announces the death of Maureen Murphy, wife of Supervisor John F. “Jack “ Murphy. Maureen died Saturday, August 9 following a long fight with cancer. Maureen Murphy served as the 1 st District Commissioner of the Cook County Board of Review from 1998-2007. She was the first women, first Republican and first suburban resident to serve on the Board. Maureen served as State Representative for the 36 th District in Illinois from 1993-1997. During this period she chaired the House revenue committee. Another first for Maureen was Chairman of the Cook County Republican Party from 2002-2004, the first woman to hold that position. She served as Worth Township Republican Committeemen and was the Township Clerk from 1985-1989. A life-long resident of Evergreen Park, Maureen served on the Evergreen Park High School Board, having been elected in 1982. She leaves behind her husband, Worth Township Supervisor Jack Murphy, four sons, four grandchildren, her parents, a sister and two brothers. A private burial will be held this week. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 16 at 10:30 am at Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church located at 103 rd Street and Central Park Avenue. For an hour prior to the Mass, there will be a visitation with family members. Maureen has requested no flowers, instead donations to LUNGevity at www.lungevity.org.
